How blogging started
Blogs have become an integral part of online culture. And it’s only in the past five to ten years that they’ve really taken off and become an important part of the online landscape.
In the early Years. It's generally recognized that the first blog was Links.net, created by Justin Hall, while he was a Swarthmore College student in 1994. At that time it was known as a personal homepage and It wasn't until 1997 that the term “weblog” was coined
“Weblog” was shortened to “blog” in 1999 by programmer Peter Merholz. It’s not until five years later that Merriam-Webster declares the word their word of the year.

While the term "blog" was not coined until the late 1990s, the history of blogging starts with several digital precursors to it. Before "blogging" became popular, digital communities took many forms, including Usenet, commercial online services such as GEnie, BiX and the early CompuServe, e-mail lists[1] and Bulletin Board Systems (BBS). In the 1990s, Internet forum software, such as WebEx, created running conversations with "threads"

The early 2000s were a period of growth for blogs. In 1999, according to a list compiled by Jesse James Garrett, there were 23 blogs on the internet. By the middle of 2006, there were 50 million blogs according to Technorati‘s State of the Blogosphere report

Blogging took a while to catch on before becoming immensely popular overnight. Blog usage spread during 1999 and following years, thanks to the near-simultaneous creation of the first hosted blog tools:
